Thinking about a loan? Here are some sites to help you with the process:
Use our handy Personal & Auto Loan Calculators to determine monthly payments on the loan you are considering.
You can check your credit history before applying for a loan, or at any time to verify its accuracy. There are three credit bureaus that keep records on consumers: Equifax (800-685-1111, www.equifax.com) , Experian (888-397-3742, www.experian.com) and TransUnion (800-888-4213, www.transunion.com). You should be able to contact them to get a copy of your credit report. You can also order a copy of your combined credit report from all three bureaus at www.truelink.com. A fee may be charged for these services.
You are entitled to receive one free credit file disclosure every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies—Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. This free credit file can be requested through www.annualcreditreport.com, or by phone at (877)322-8228. The website also offers a form to complete and order your report through the mail.
Learn more about credit issues at www.ftc.gov . For copies of FTC (Federal Trade Commission) brochures on credit issues, call (877) FTC-HELP.
